I am just like you...
I had a dream and an idea about the kind of life I wanted to live and I just knew that I could make it happen.
Building your own business is hard work. You start wearing hats that you didn't even know existed and it can really become overwhelming. You want to do everything yourself (including create a kickass website)... but it keeps getting pushed to the side or you are not sure where to start.
You can absolutely do everything yourself... but that doesn't mean you should.
I am here to guide you through the process and get rid of the overwhelm. We will work together to create a website that you can be proud of, one that you can take ownership of and update yourself and that resonates with your clients.
I started this business with my partner in 2006 and have been through a number of ups and downs, changes and tweaks (read the full story below) and I would love to be a part of your business journey.
If you think that we could be a great team, please get in touch and book a time to chat.
A bit about me...
I'm Veronica, I am the owner and creator of Creative Natives. My love of websites and coding began years ago when I used to stay up late creating my website "Ophelia's Lair" (yes, very dramatic LOL) on my parent's computer. I would spend hours tweaking this or that, finding out how things moved and worked and how I could make it better.
This fascination led to a few years of trying to discover "what I want to be when I grow up." I delved right into year studying IT and network engineering, thinking that is where the answer lay, it wasn't. My favourite part of the whole year was the six days we spent learning html and frontpage. I just knew I wanted something more.
I have always been a fan of literature and the classics (hence the "Ophelia" reference) and so decided that Varsity was where the answer could be. I took a triple major for two years, studying English, Classical Civilisation and Computer Science and running from one end of campus to the other in order to make lectures. In third year, I was forced to choose two majors and I dropped Computer Science and stuck with Classics and that was a turning point in my web career.
Our Classics department was very progressive and my third-year and honours assignments were to create two websites, each around a different classical theme. I put everything into these two websites and I really wish they were still online for me to view. I scored 98% for both, received my honours cum laude, and earned my first two paid website gigs.
I was paid to revamp both the varsity Classics website and the Classical Association of South Africa's website (it is still online in my design) and I knew that I was onto something good.
I have always loved designing, developing and stretching myself. I am never one to get too comfortable in any situation. I went straight from varsity to working as a designer and desktop publisher at a printing company. I was tasked with writing, editing, layout and some sales for their local community newspaper. I loved the work and took great pride in it. I worked after hours and weekends all to make sure that the paper came out on time and was something to be proud of. After about a year of putting in all this work for someone else, I felt I wanted more...
The start of something great
My partner, Werner, and I are both hard workers and we always knew that we wanted a different kind of life. We wanted a life of freedom, one we were free to design ourselves, that we could call our own. We both knew that if we put the same effort into a business of our own, we would soar.
So, in 2006, at the ripe old ages of 24 and 26, we quit our jobs and bought a business card franchise in a new town...
It was tough.
We worked hard.
The franchise fell apart and we were on our own.
We were a design and print house with a kickass website, everything to work for and nothing was going to stop us. Over the years, we began receiving more and more requests for websites and when the price of paper went up 53% in one month, we abandoned the printing and became a graphic and web design studio.
In 2009, we decided to focus solely on WordPress web design and development and it was the best decision we ever could have made. I absolutely love it. WordPress is always evolving and changing which means that I am constantly challenged and inspired.
Since 2015, the business has changed to align more with the types of clients I love to work with. I simply love creating websites for restless dreamers, like me who long to create the life that they want and I am proud to be able to help them make their dreams a reality.

Jordan is the go-to guy for website updates and tweaks. He is fast-becoming the "support-guy" and takes care of a ton of the background work that goes into creating a website. He is my right-hand guy and generally awesome assistant. He is new to the website field, but has taken to everything super fast and has fast become an integral part of the team.
His excellent taste in music, willingness to learn and witty comments, mean that he is just awesome to work with. He is not a fan of coffee (weird, I know) and is a bit camera shy, but don't worry, we will get a pic of him soon.
We honestly love what we do
we have been so fortunate to work with some amazing people over the years, head over to our portfolio to see some of the websites we are proud of
